State Facesstate.ie names its artists to look out for in the 12 months flowing from January each year, and accompanied by original photoshoots from our team of photographers.
Housewife (Oisín Tarrant) is a multi-instrumentalist from Dublin, Ireland.
I come from a pretty musical family. I suppose I would’ve started out playing trad and then my Dad taught me guitar. Before I’d settled on guitar I’d tried every instrument in the house. The guitar voice combo was the best option and meant that I could perform too. I suppose having learned lots of instruments, I got interested in recording and overdubbing from a young age (Deep Me must be the most layered song I’ve ever heard). Having been in a two bands over 10 years I think I’d always come back to orchestrating everything myself.
In 1994. I was always going to be Housewife. In all seriousness though, I’m not sure. I’d always intended to hide under a pseudonym. I didn’t overthink it. I was on a year out and had lots of free time on my hands and thought Housewife sat well. See now I’m overthinking it?
Yeah. I’m lucky to have friends and family that are always looking to contribute and the cover art and video for my single came from them. I gave them free rein so I hadn’t much input and was surprised when a common colour-filled theme emerged from both the video and the cover art. It’s interesting to see the same set of songs drawing similar visuals out of different artists.
Yes. The photos you’re seeing now aren’t even me. Don’t know the guy. I have no face. I have no state. I look to remain faceless. I look to remain… stateless.
